Baltimore's Scary Mommy kicked off the tour for her new book Tuesday with an appearance on "Today."

The blogger/author Jill Smokler chatted with Hoda Kotb -- who said the book had her cracking up even though she doesn't have kids. "Motherhood Comes Naturally (and other vicious lies)" is Smokler's second book.

For most of her air time, Smokler, who has three children, gamely fielded viewer parenting questions. One mother wanted to know how to get her two kids to spend time with the family instead of their electronic devices. ("Hide them," Smokler suggested.) Another wanted to know if it was OK to go on a family vacation and put the children in the kids club for the entire day. ("Yes," Smoker said.) To one who wanted to know how to get her son to sleep in his own bed after watching frightening coming attractions on TV, she just said, "I never claimed to be a parenting expert!"

Which, fair enough, she did not. Smokler's garnered legions of fans by writing with humor and honesty about the joys and pitfalls of parenting.

Perhaps her best answer on the show came for the mother who wanted to know what to do when her 3-year-old has a public meltdown. "Whatever in that moment helps you survive," she said.

Smokler will be promoting the book next week in Baltimore, with an appearance April 15 at Charm City Kids Club. The event, which runs 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., will also feature Milkshake.
