Actress Mo’Nique underscored her support of marriage equality in Maryland today by sending out a fundraising email on behalf of the Human Rights Campaign.

"As a proud Marylander, I think it's high time that everyone living in Maryland feels at home there – regardless of who they love," she wrote. "The only way we'll be able to celebrate a true victory in Maryland is if we fight the opposition with everything we have."

The Oscar winner, a Maryland native, has supported the effort to legalize gay marriage. She released a video last year where she says, "I believe since we've all been given free will, let's use our will to let others be free."

It seems that the campaign can use the help winning over black voters before the November election when the issue will be on the ballot. A new poll released by Marylanders for Marriage Equality found African-American voters in Maryland are virtually split on the issue, 44 percent in favor, 45 percent against.
