Sunday, when the real media was finished with Ray Lewis, one lucky fan got a personal press conference with the Ravens star.
John Williams of Florida won the press conference through a Visa contest, which was promoted -- most charmingly -- through a commercial featuring Lewis and a little girl in pig-tails. The spot, in heavy circulation earlier this fall, was called "Ray Lewis' toughest interview yet."
It featured Lewis at a press conference, seated at the podium, a scrum of tough-looking media before him asking him uncomfortable questions.
Suddenly, a hand shoots up and a little girl voice shouts out, "Mr. Lewis!"
"What's your favorite color?" she demands. "What's your favorite animal?" The battery continued as Lewis helplessly answered. That's not how it went Sunday when Lewis faced the contest winner -- who didn't grill half as hard.
It's only luck that Williams, a Ravens fan, won the contest -- which was open to anyone in the country.
Visa flew him to Baltimore with a friend and they had a few post-game moments with Lewis, as well as game tickets and pre-game field access.
They spent their time quizzing Lewis -- gently -- about his triceps (an injury which has kept him sidelined for weeks) and when he thought he might get back on the field.
Apparently, a bit star-struck, that was all Williams and his friend, Trisha Gibson, could muster.
For the less-than-pig-tailed, Lewis can be intimidating.
