An Ellicott City seventh-grader has a shot at having her artwork grace Google’s homepage.

Lauren Shen, who attends Burleigh Manor Middle School, found out this week that her drawing will represent Maryland in the sixth annual Doodle 4 Google contest.

More than 130,000 students from across the country in kindergarten through 12th grade entered.

The theme was “My Best Day Ever...”

“My doodle expresses the theme because the day I arrived in Taiwan was my best day ever,” Lauren told Google. “I saw many sites and was able to see my family for the first time.”

Lauren's elaborate drawing shows a melange of things from her experience -- the jet that carried her overseas, a bowl of noodles, the span of the globe.

Each winning doodle from the 50 states will hang for a stint at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. The public will help choose the five finalists by voting through May 10 at google.com/doodle4google/vote.html.

Google will unveil the winner on May 22. In addition to having his or her work online before millions of Googlers, the lucky doodler gets a $30,000 college scholarship, and the student’s school gets a $50,000 technology grant.
