So according to the national media, if you're still single in the Baltimore area, you're just not trying hard enough.

First, over the summer, Money Magazine said that Towson is one of the country's top places to find rich singles.

And now Bloomberg puts Ellicott City near the top of its list of "swinging singles" spots.

Hoboken, N.J., is at the very top of the list.

Arlington, Va., in our general area, ranked second.

But Ellicott City made it to Bloomberg's respectable eighth position for men. Bowie, meanwhile, took the third spot when it came to women singles.

Bloomberg came up with its rankings by combing Census data from 2006 to 2010, looking in particular for people ages 15 to 64 who lived alone and seemed to have hefty incomes.

By their count, of Ellicott City's population of 65,834, the median household income of single men is $80,532. And not quite 34 percent of the population there are single males.

Singles, use that information at your own discretion.
