The advance trailer is out for “Step,” Amanda Lipitz’s documentary look at three seniors at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women as they prepare to compete in a local step competition, and as they get ready to be the first members of their families to attend college.
Parts of the film play out against the backdrop of the Black Lives Matter movement and the unrest following the April 2015 death of Freddie Gray from injuries suffered while in police custody.
You can watch the trailer here, and get your introduction to the three young women at the center of the film: Blessin Giraldo, Tayla Solomon and Cori Grainger.
The movie, an award winner at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, was picked up for distribution by Fox Searchlight Pictures for a reported $4 million-plus. It is scheduled to open at theaters beginning Aug. 4. No definitive word yet on when it will open in Baltimore.
