Alexis Carter decided to go the unconventional route for her prom, picking a winged-look that emulated a dress worn by her idol, singer Rihanna.
Make that her former idol.
The 16-year-old from Baltimore, who picked the dress for a Hollywood-themed prom, according to Fox 45 News, was immediately met with scorn for the look on social media.
Carter said the dress, which features a plunging neckline and big wings, was a hit at the prom, but when she posted a photo of it on her Twitter feed, @Lexxy_Charms, it was immediately met with strong reactions, including the not-so-flattering trending hashtag #PromBat.
Then Rihanna responded. The singer posted a photo of herself wearing the original dress next to photo of Carter wearing her prom dress and added a sad face. Rihanna then posted another photo comparing Carter's dress to the symbol for rap group Wu-Tang Clan.
"I was very offended," Carter said of Rihanna's tweets, according to Fox 45. "Why throw shade on it when you had on the exact same thing. The poses was different but the outfit wasn't."
Carter said the cyberbulling is continuing and that she is hurt by Rihanna's reactions. "She don't love her fans like she says she does," Carter said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
