Several hundred Baltimoreans welcomed the summer in style at Solstice, the Maryland Science Center's annual $125-a-ticket gala, chaired this year by Chris Marasco and April Cooper.
The cocktail-attired crowd roamed the center, stopping off at a number of food stations and bars, and trying out some of the interactive exhibits. They enjoyed the mild summer evening on the terrace, or heated things up inside on the dance floor.
According to Van Reiner, center president/CEO, this was the 37th Solstice party.
"And it all goes to support free admission to all Maryland students who come to the Center. In the past year, we've hosted over 100,000 students, teachers and chaperons," he said.
So, what makes a party successful for so long?
"I think it's one of the funnest [parties] in Baltimore. You get to mingle on the different floors. You get to see some of the science exhibits the kids get to see. Outside, it's a beautiful view of the harbor. It's a great time," said Mark Huston, Maryland Science Center board chair.
