Sail Baltimore may have changed the name of its annual summer shindig from "Beer, Boats & Ballads" to "Portside Party," but the spirit of the event remained the same. Folks strolled the Baltimore Marine Centers at Harborview pier to the tunes of a local band, while sampling treats from local eateries and food and drink vendors. They could enjoy the view from the Tiki Barge or tour the Lady Maryland docked next to it.
"We like to do [the] party right down here in the environment where Sail Baltimore does its thing," said Michael McGeady, Sail Baltimore president.
"It's a unique combination of really pulling together all the elements that make Baltimore so special; it is the harbor," said Elizabeth Weglein, Sail Baltimore fundraising committee chair. "It is the water, it is the people."
Then there's a very simple reason why this $65-a-ticket bash brings in several hundred revelers, according to Laura Stevenson, executive director of Sail Baltimore: "It's not a high-stress event. It's just fun."
