Heavy rain and flash floods around Baltimore earlier in the day couldn't dampen the party at Gertrude's at the BMA. A couple hundred guests gathered for "Twilight on the Terrace," the cocktail party kickoff to Baltimore Pride weekend, which benefited the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland. Guests enjoyed a summer garden party atmosphere -- kicked up a couple of notches, courtesy of club tunes supplied by a DJ -- as they sipped specialty cocktails and browsed buffets on the restaurant's terrace.
"This is our classy kickoff to Pride ... where we're demure," said Michael McCarthy, GLCCB board president, referring to the weekend's block party and parade, which would have a rowdier feel to its celebration of gay pride.
The anticipation was there, though. When a 15-minute sudden downpour sent most folks scuttling indoors to wait it out, a couple of revelers exuberantly danced in the rain.
