For more than 25 years, the Baltimore School for the Arts' annual "Expressions" gala has been one of the hottest tickets on Baltimore's social circuit. This year was no exception, even at $350 a pop.
So what was the big attraction? Is it the chance for folks to take a "class" taught by BSA's faculty and students in subjects like music, dancing or visual arts before dinner? Or getting to see some of the students display their talents on stage after dinner? Many guests point to the students' infectious energy and enthusiasm that hits people as soon as they walk in the door.
However, Wally Pinkard had another possible reason for the popularity of the 2014 shindig.
"Because they have six males as co-chairs this year," he said with a laugh, referring to himself and fellow co-chairs BSA alumni Lawrence Gilliard Jr. and Antonio Hart, and supporters Larry Jennings, Sam Polakoff and Mike Riley.
