Both bravura and bravery went into Fashion Saves Lives, a first-time fundraiser for the American Breast Cancer Foundation, which provides breast cancer screenings and diagnostic tests to underserved people.
While the first part of the evening was a party at Port Discovery - where guests could browse the goodies at food and beverage stations, as well as tables of jewelry and accessories for sale - the highlight was a fashion show featuring models who were breast cancer survivors, and Ravens tight end Ed Dickson (who was all smiles as he gamely strode the runway, giving no hint to the pain he was feeling after having his wisdom teeth extracted earlier that day).
The point of the evening was to raise money in way that was "upbeat, with smiling faces," according to Jacky Loube, foundation executive director. "We wanted to make it joyous."
The show seemed to accomplish that mission. As each model strolled the catwalk, he or she was greeted with plenty of cheers and applause.
