The American Visionary Art Museum Gala had the mark of genius - two geniuses, to be exact.
Several hundred guests amassed at AVAM to honor Anne Arundel County "boy genius" Jack Andraka - the 16-year-old who developed a test to discover early-stage pancreatic and ovarian cancer - and Ray Kurzweil, Google director of engineering, inventor and futurist. They received AVAM's Grand Visionary Award from Rebecca Hoffberger, AVAM founder/director.
Among those most excited to meet Kurzweil was his fellow honoree. "We learned all about him in ninth grade, so to meet one of my idols is really great," said Andraka.
Brilliance didn't seem to get in the way of either honoree enjoying the evening. At the boisterous after party, both could be seen bopping on the dance floor to the tunes of the Amish Outlaws, surrounded by dozens of crazily clad guests dressed in the party's requested attire of "mad scientist, tech geek or robo-chic."
