Pride After Dark

When Rose Carpenter was a corporate attorney, she was a master at wheeling and dealing. Now retired for a number of years, Carpenter, 58, has simply sharpened those skills in another arena - shopping.<br><br>

"I rarely, rarely, rarely pay full price for anything. ... I just got a Costco deal on my Range Rover. I got 5 percent off because I showed them my Costco card," says the Baltimore native who now makes her home in Palm Beach, Fla.<br><br>

Carpenter loves to hunt down designer deals in particular, as she did for the sea-colored Missoni frock she wore to Pride After Dark, which raised money for the educational programs and goodwill missions of the Pride of Baltimore, where Carpenter serves as a board member.<br><br>          

HER STYLE: "Classic, with a little funky."<br><br>

HER ENSEMBLE: Turquoise and green knit Missoni one-shoulder dress from theoutnet.com; large baroque pearl Y-necklace she helped design from Kaufmann de Suisse in Palm Beach - "I liked the large, unusual shape [of the pearls]. But I'm too small to wear a solid necklace of pearls this size." Pearl earrings she bought at a charity auction in Palm Beach; stacked John Hardy and other bangles collected over the years; black crocodile patent leather Nancy Gonzalez baguette evening bag; black Manolo Blahnik over-the-knee boots ("I wore them so I wouldn't have to wear tights"); and Michele watch with pale blue crocodile strap from Neiman Marcus.<br><br>

HER PASSION FOR PEARLS: "I've been into pearls for the last year or so. They're gorgeous. They're natural. They have a luster. And they're unique. Even with cultured pearls, they're never exactly the same."<br><br>

HER HUNTING GROUNDS: "Now, it's mostly Internet. I'll go to the Sawgrass Mills outlets in Florida; Neiman's and Saks outlets, they're a little better than they are up here. Then there's what I call my Gucci T.J. Maxx in Palm Beach Gardens, where they carry designers."<br><br>
