Institute of Notre Dame Penguins( Handout photo by Danielle Yoncha / February 16, 2012 )
School: Institute of Notre Dame
Location: 901 Aisquith St., Baltimore
Significance of mascot: "The Emperor Penguin is defined by its rigid discipline, dedication, commitment, sense of family and self-sacrifice. It shares these characteristics with the Institute of Notre Dame that have long been hallmarks of the school. Because a mascot should be a true reflection of the spirit and culture of an institution, the penguin is a natural fit for the school as the official mascot. The penguin gives the school a mascot that embodies and represents its core values, and that makes sense now and that will in the future too."
