Memorial Stadium, 1978

( Bo Rader, The Baltimore Sun ) Sunday's Super Bowl wasn't the first time Baltimore sports teams have had to deal with a blackout. The power went out for short periods of time at old Memorial Stadium, including once for 23 minutes before an Orioles-Yankees game in August 1978. Many local fans remember how ABC sportscaster Howard Cosell used the occasion of one such power outage to rag on Baltimore for being a city where such a thing could happen. |
