Scene & Heard: Flip Flop Festivus

Warm, summery breezes and the hot, rocking tunes of the All Mighty Senators swept across the waterfront lanai at Silo Point. A couple hundred casually clad guests gathered at "Flip Flop Festivus" to say goodbye to one season and welcome another: football season. The main aim of the evening was to raise money and awareness of the Life & Breath Foundation, which was founded in 1998 by ACC basketball official Sean Hull to fight the disease sarcoidosis after his mother passed away from the disease. As serious as he was about the cause, Hull wanted to make sure the evening itself was as much fun as possible.
"I wanted to bring the islands to the Inner Harbor with a Tommy Bahama-style event and put a smile on your face. And flip-flops help make it casual," he said.

The "festivus" part of the name is a nod to several friends of Hull, members of the 2001 Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens; several of whom were enjoying the evening's repast and refreshments.

"It's a good cause. It affects Sean and he's a friend. So, if I can help a friend, I do," said former Raven Matt Stover.

"It has great food, great friends, great atmosphere," said Qadry Ismail.
"Though they might have too much liquor here," said Brad Jackson, with a laugh.
