The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's annual gala may be almost 30 years old, but it still attracts the see-and-be-seen crowd in full fine feather. A quick sweep of the group under the tent next to the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall produced glimpses of folks like: past BSO board chair Michael Bronfein; Constellation Energy Mayo Shattuck and his wife Molly Shattuck; Sinclair Broadcast Group chairman/CEO David Smith and his wife Jane Smith; Global Domain CEO David Oros and his wife, Mosaic Group president Marla Oros; WYPR president/general manager Tony Brandon; Center Stage artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah; Rosemore chairman Henry Rosenberg Jr. and his wife Dot Rosenberg; and Nevins & Associates president David Nevins and his wife, Ed-Pysch Solutions director Susie Nevins.
Greeting every single one of them were board chairman Kenneth DeFontes and his wife Bonnie DeFontes, and event chairs Tom and Barbara Bozzuto, who marveled at the stellar turnout.
"This continues year after year, yet it still has the magic, the pizazz," Barbara Bozzuto said.
Adding some of that pizazz was BSO music director Marin Alsop -- who would be conducting the orchestra in a concert a little later in the evening -- and her partner, Colorado Symphony Orchestra French horn player/UMBC faculty member Kristin Jurkscheit, as they circulated through the happy throng.
Kenneth DeFontes was particularly relieved that one guest was in good spirits. As president/CEO of Baltimore Gas and Electric, this particular entity's bad behavior had been a nightmare for him over the past couple of weeks.
"I'm glad Mother Nature treated us gently tonight," he said.
