Ask Melissa Mauro, 32, to describe her style. "If it's black, I'll wear it," says the Reisterstown resident. That includes what she wears to work as a visitor services associate at the American Visionary Art Museum -- a black cotton jersey Bell de Jour dress with a banded hem from the Macy's clearance rack. Almost all her accessories were also black: a black and white cameo pendant from In The Details in Hampden; black beaded chandelier earrings she's had for years; black snakeskin peep toe pumps from Payless; a black crystal and wife wire cuff bracelet from Kohl's; a black evil eye bead bracelet from Aruba; and a David Yurman knockoff bracelet that her mom bought from a New York City street vendor. Her black and white striped leggings from Kohl's are key to giving her look a little zing. "I try to [add something] with color. White is the presence of all color." And her Andy Warhol canvas tote? A gift from her sister, who got it at Marshalls. "The only reason I know it was from Marshalls was that it still had the tag on it -- with the price."
