Civil War collection of James R. Weitzel [Pictures]

Over 500 historical Union and Confederate civil war pieces from the James R. Weitzel collection are up for grabs at Alex Cooper Auctioneers Inc.'s next auction. Some of the rare memorabilia pieces include a handwritten note from Abraham Lincoln allowing Lewis Parker from New York to Savannah, Georgia, in 1864, a confederate uniform from a Virginia Cavalry Private, various kepi caps of confederate and union privates, and tactical manuals. Bidding is open now, but a public preview of the items will be held May 1- May 2. The official auction will be May 3. Take a look at some of the collection's most prized treasures.
