Football

The Columbia Ravens Football program will hold its homecoming activities Sat., Oct. 22 at Cedar Lane Park West. All present and former Ravens players and families are encouraged to come out for a day of football, friends and fun. Former players are encouraged to wear their current high school jerseys or former Ravens jerseys. Go to http://www.columbiaravens.com.

 

Running

 

The Howard County Striders will hold their 35th annual Metric Marathon (26.2k/16.3 miles) and Metric 5k Nov. 13. The races start in Columbia Town Center at 8:15 a.m. Cost: $35 for the 26k and $30 for the 5k. Race day registration is $5 extra. Register at active.com. Emil metricmarathon@gmail.com.

 

Sign up for a 9k Around the Fairways at the Timber at Troy Golf Course on Nov. 5. This is a new race and the opportunity to run the golf cart path. Brunch is scheduled after the race. Register at http://bullseyerunning.com.

 

The Dazzle Dash will be held Nov. 19 for runners and Nov. 20 for walkers. This is a 1.4 mile run or walk through the Symphony of Lights. Early registration ends Nov. 1. Save $5 by registering early. Go to http://www.hcgh.org/content/dazzledash.

 

Baseball

 

The regular meeting of Talkin' Baseball will be held Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens, 7110 Minstrel Way, Columbia. Tom Flynn will discuss his book, "Baseball in Baltimore." Call 410-740-1145.

 

The HCYP Raiders 16-U tournament team is looking to fill the final two slots on its roster. The team will be participating in high-level tournaments throughout the mid-Atlantic area between Memorial Day and the middle of July. Eligible candidates should have travel baseball and high school baseball experience as a catcher or outfielder and cannot turn 17 before May 1, 2012. Basketball

 

The Savage Boys and Girls Club will hold travel team tryouts for 4th grade boys (Oct. 18 and 20) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Murray Hill Middle School. Tryouts for the 7th grade boys team will be held Oct. 17 and 19 from 6:30-8 p.m., also at Murray Hill. Players are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Lacrosse

 

Stevenson University will host the Meghan Puls Lacrosse Classic Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. to help raise funds for the Meghan Puls Foundation.

The classic will feature four teams Stevenson, Stevens Institute of Technology, Virginia Wesleyan College, and Goucher College.

Proceeds from the fundraiser benefit theUniversity of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Lions Camp Merrick diabetes camp. Other beneficiaries include The Seton Keough High School Scholarship, Marillac and Focus programs.

Admission is free, but a suggested donation of $5 is encouraged. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Email gtpuls@stevenson.edu for more information.

 

Softball

 

The Central Maryland Terror Fastpitch Softball Organization is looking for talented players at the 10-U and 18-U levels to play tournament softball for the 2012 season.
