The Howard County Recreation and Parks' Celebration of Sports golf tournament will be held Oct. 14 at Timbers at Troy. The tournament begins with a shotogun start at 9:30 a.m. Fees: $85 (individual); $340 (team). Register by calling 410-313-7275 or online at http://www.howardcountymd.gov/rap.

The i9 basketball season will run Sundays, Oct. 2-Nov. 20, at the Howard County Sports Center on Dorsey Road in Elkridge. Teams are forming to represent Howard County in the Baltimore Tennis Patrons Junior Indoor Tennis League. There are four divisions, and boys and girls, grades four through 12, are welcome. Play runs October through March on weekends only.

The Howard County Striders are holding a youth cross country meet at Centennial High School Sept. 25. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and costs $5. The 25th annual BWI Airport 4-mile run and 2-mile family walk will be held Sept. 25 at the BWI Airport Midfield Cargo Warehouse Complex. The race starts at 8 a.m. and benefits children with Down syndrome. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. Cost: $30 (adults); $15 (children 13-under). The 17-U/19-U Columbia Red Storm travel team will hold tryouts for the 2012 season on Sept. 17 and 18 from 9-11 a.m. at Oakland Mills High School.
The Red Storm competes in the MABA high school travel division and in various local and out of town tournaments. The team is currently ranked No. 1 in the 17-U age group by ECTB in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
