Reservoir junior 170-pounder Wesley Beattie has the distinction of clinching two dual meet victories for his team this season with last-bout wins: Dec. 20 against Oakland Mills, and Jan. 22 at Mt. Hebron. He was also crowned as a champion at the Grapple at the Brook tournament. Last season, wrestling at 145 pounds, Beattie finished 24-11 and placed fourth at the county tournament, but failed to place at regionals. This year, he is the fourth-ranked wrestler in a very tough Howard County 170-pound weight class that features Wilde Lake's undefeated Tola Morakinyo, Glenelg's Anthony Pagnotta and River Hill sophomore Brian Kirby.
Beattie will compete in the county tournament this weekend at Oakland Mills High School, but he took a break with us in late-January for a 30-second timeout.
