In other anticipated match-ups during the tri-meet, River Hill's Logan Kirby edged Hammond's Humphrey Anuh, a recent Northern tournament champion, 6-2, and River Hill's Michael Beck pinned Mt. Hebron's Jeff Hayden in a battle between two of the county's best 106-pounders. In that match, Hayden, a freshman, took Beck, a sophomore, down to his back, nearly pinning him. But Beck fought his way free and eventually pinned Hayden.

Goodwin and teammates Bryan Overton (160) and Wilson Low (132) were all double winners on Tuesday, while Mt. Hebron freshmen Connor Strunk (126) and Stefen Chavis (152) pinned twice for the Vikings.

Chavis started this season as the third-strong 152-pounder on the JV, but got the nod on Tuesday due to a series of injuries and absences.

"We're so deep at 152 it's not even funny," DeCrispino said. Chavis "has junior league experience. He's a good wrestler … I'm picking him as my MVP (for the match). He had two pins tonight and looked great."

Strunk was a decorated junior league wrestler as well, but his smooth transition to varsity competition has been stunning, and he is now the Vikings' only undefeated wrestler.

"To see his style of wrestling, his aggressiveness … you don't usually see junior league wrestlers like that," DeCrispino said. "They're skilled, but he reminds me of a junior or senior wrestler … he has all the skills of a high school upperclassmen."

Mt. Hebron will take on the field at the Franklin Invitational tournament this weekend, along with Centennial and Glenelg.
