Running

The Marriotts Ridge High School Boosters 8th Annual Mustang 5K Stampede & Scream, and 1-Mile Zombie Walk will be held on Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. rain or shine. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. on the track at Marriotts Ridge and the cost is $25.

Run the golf cart paths at the Timbers at Troy Golf Course on Oct. 28 during the 9K Around the Fairways at Timbers race. The race starts at 8 a.m. Sign up at bullseyerunning.com before Oct. 24 or on race morning at the golf course.

The first Young Life 5K Run for the Kids and 1-mile Fun Run/Trail Run in Rockburn Branch Park is scheduled for Nov. 3 at 9:30 a.m. Sign up at bullseyerunning.com.

The 5K Run for Food trail run and 1-mile fun run is being held Nov. 18 at 8 a.m. at the Howard County Living Heritage Farm Museum. Sign up at bullseyerunning.com.

The Howard County Striders will be holding their annual Metric Marathon (16.3 miles) on Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. Go to striders.net/places/columbia-town-center.

Baseball

The Burtonsville Athletic Association, in partnership with Baseball Factory, will hold tryouts for 9U, 10U, 11U and 12U travel baseball teams on Nov. 3-4 at Columbia Park in Burtonsville. For more details and to register, go to http://www.burtonsvillesports.org.

The regular meeting of "Talkin' Baseball" will be held on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. at Brighton Gardens in Columbia. Tim Wendell will be the speaker and will be discussing his book, "Summer of '68." Call 410-740-1145 for more information.

Soccer

The Central Maryland Soccer Association is accepting team registrations for the 23rd Thanksgiving Classic soccer tournament Nov. 24-25 at venues across the Baltimore metropolitan area. The tournament is USSF sanctioned through Soccer Association for Youth (SAY) and is open to all school, recreation and club USSF-affiliated travel teams throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Single-age competition is offered for both boys and girls teams in the age groupings of 8-14; dual-age competition is available for high school U16 and U18 teams. The deadline for guaranteed registration is Nov. 11. Registration forms are available at cmsasoccer.com.
