The Striders and Bullseye Running are starting a new series this summer. Starting June 20 and for five of the next six Thursday nights at River Hill High starting at 6 p.m. there will be All-Comers Track Meets. Adults and kids can compete on the track in events from the 100 to the 3,000 meters plus some field events like the shot put, discus, long jump and triple jump. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 18 and under.
Howard County Rec Football is sponsoring a youth football non-contact camp June 24 and 25, for beginners and experienced boys and girls ages 6 to 14 to learn fundamentals, basic skills and technique. Sign up at the Howard County Rec and Parks web site, activity code 5313.404.
Football and cheer
Online registration for Ellicott City Patriots Youth Football, Cheer and Poms fall season, beginning Aug. 1, is now open. Players ages 5-14 will be placed on teams based on age, weight and experience. Go to http://www.ecpatriots.com for more information or register at the Howard County Rec and Parks web site.
The Ellicott City Patriots are also looking for cheer head coaches, assistant coaches and administrative helpers. The Howard County Rec and Parks Terps Youth Tackle Football and Cheerleading program is open for registration. Players ages 5-14, beginning or experienced, are welcome to join. Practice at the East Columbia Library fields in Owen Brown starts July 29 and games at Blandair Park near Oakland Mills begin in late August. Parent orientation is July 10. Howard County Rec and Parks is accepting registration for the Summer Flag Football League on the Turf for ages 7-13, on the indoor turf fields inside the Volleyball and Soccer Arena in Elkridge. Practices and games are one hour on Saturdays between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The first two weeks are clinics/practices with games beginning July 6. The league has a relaxed, fun atmosphere, so missing a team function for vacation or other plans is not a problem. Volunteer coaches are needed and receive a discount. Cost is $100. Leader's Baseball Camp is offering two weeks of high-level baseball training, July 8-12 and July 22-26. Reservoir varsity head coach Adam Leader (2011 and 2012 District Coach of the Year) and his staff will run this camp designed to teach players the physical and mental game of baseball. With half-day and all-day options, Leader's Baseball Camp allows rising second to ninth grade players the opportunity to become a better baseball player. Howard County Rec and Parks is accepting registration for Summer Baseball camps, for ages 6-16. Whether for pitching, catching, fielding or hitting, there is a camp for novice and experienced players. Camps are in small groups based on age and skill level. Receive instruction from county coaches, teachers and varsity players with proven championship records. Baseball camps are half-day but can be extended with the HC Summer Mix Camp. The regular meeting of Talkin' Baseball will be held at 9 a.m. on July 6 at Brighton Gardens in Columbia. The speaker will be Adam Cromie, the Director of Baseball Operations for the Washington Nationals.

Registration is now open for the Elkridge Youth Organization fall soccer program. Registration ends on Aug. 15, but some leagues fill up fast, so sign up early. EYO soccer is a co-ed, recreational program for ages 4-18 that places an emphasis on instruction, fitness and fun. Games are played at Rockburn Park. There are no tryouts required for the recreational leagues and all players are afforded substantial playing time.
