Centennial Fun Run gearing up for 35th season

Running

The Centennial Fun Run will begin its 35th season on Tuesday, June 18, at 7:30 p.m. The one-mile run is held in the Centennial neighborhood and the first night is a fundraiser for the Howard County Junior Striders. There is a suggested donation of $3 per person. For additional information call 410-465-7735 or visit the Striders website.

Sports physicals

University of Maryland Sports Medicine is offering pre-participation physicals for high school athletes from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 30, July 21 and August 4. Registration ahead of time is required as no walk-ins will be accepted. Cost is $35 per athlete. Call 410-298-0990, Ext. 15 to set up an appointment.

Soccer

The SAC United Premier White U13 Girls team (00-01) is looking for a goalie. The team competes in WAGS Division I, attends competitive tournaments throughout the year and will participate in the State Cup in the spring. Interested players should email mraffael731@yahoo.com.

Summer camps

The Chenier-Wingfield Basketball Camp will be held at Wilde Lake High School for two weeks this summer. The first session is scheduled July 29-Aug. 2 and the second one is Aug. 5-9. Howard County Rec Football is sponsoring a youth football non-contact camp for two nights (June 24-25) for boys and girls ages 6-14. Participants will learn the fundamentals, basic skills and techniques for beginners and experienced players. Maryland Junior Volleyball Club is hosting several summer volleyball camps for junior volleyball players. The registration online is open at mdjrs.org. Limited number of spots available.

The Glenelg High School Booster's Club offers summer sports camp instruction. Go to glenelgboosters.com for camp schedules and registration information. Camps are open to current 5th-8th graders (incoming 6th-9th graders, 2013-2014).

Camp Inclusion is a camp based on forming friendships between students with and without learning disabilities, much like the Best Buddies program. Hosted by Glenelg High, it is a sports and crafts camp which focuses on reinforcing concepts students have learned throughout the school year. Lacrosse

Tom Marechek's All Pro Lacrosse offers several instructional camps this summer in the Baltimore area. The Maryland Boys' Day Camp will be held at St. Timothy's School June 24-27, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $350 cost includes lunch. The Maryland Girls' Overnight Camp, featuring instruction from Gary Gait, will be held at St. Timothy's School July 8-11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (day) or 9-8:30 p.m. (extended), or overnight. The Maryland Boys' Overnight Camp, featuring a special appearance by Steele Stanwick, will be held at Goucher College July 8-11, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (day) or 9-8:30 p.m. (extended), or overnight.
