The 2012 Top Flight Invitational was held at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex Dec. 1-2.

Julia Heiner was the top individual finisher for Top Flight between all levels, as she took home first place in the level 5 All-Around competition.

The Top Flight Gymnastics' USAG girls participated in the ACPR Harvestfest meet Nov. 11. The Level 5 girls team won first place at the meet. In the All-Around competition, Julia Heiner was first, Rhisen Davis second and Lacie Pierce fourth.

Howard County Junior Striders

Fifty-nine members of the Howard County Junior Striders competed at the AAU cross country Junior Olympic National Championships in South Carolina on Dec. 1.

National champions included Michael Wegner, winner of the 15-16 Boys 5K race and Corey Hamilton, who earned the 14 Boys 4K title. The Junior Striders also earned second place overall as a team.

Howard County Striders

Forty-nine runners participated in the Howard County Striders winter weekly race series at Thunder Hill Elementary Dec. 2.

In the two-mile run, Jason Tripp and Karen Harvey came away with victories. Karsten Brown and Kendra Smith led the way in the 10K race.

Soccer

The girls U9 SAC EC United Select team won first place in their age group at the Mountain Road Soccer Tournament, Nov 17-18. While scoring 14 goals and allowing only one, they finished undefeated (4-0), including a 1-0 win in the final game.

This tournament team, coached by Larry Boodin, included EC United team members: Ella Boodin, Emily DiPietro, Hannah Lowry, Elizabeth Proietti, Danielle Minn, Sophie Shimeall, Ellen Landrum, Danielle Himmel and Alisha Uddin in addition to SAC Select guests Annelise Ingham, Gia Johnson and Terranova Oh. The EC United team, including teammates Callie LasCasas and Lauren Pellegrini, also finished in first place this fall in the girls U9 SAC Select division.

The SAC boys U15 United 1 won their division in the 2012 Columbia Fall Classic Tournament. The team, coached by Craig Blackburn, won in the finals, 2-1, over Montgomery SC Green Falcons.

Football

On Dec. 2, the 11-13 Ellicott City Patriots picked up a victory over the Baltimore Team Holy Dirt, 18-12, in triple overtime. The Patriots now advance to play in the National Gridiron 365 Division II State Championships Dec. 9.

The Ellicott City Patriots players include Andres Acuna, Lewis Anania, Reed Bunyard, Eric Duguay, Kyle Farrar, Brady Gilliland-Daniel, Tyren Hairston, Donovan Nicastro, Wes Norton, Doron Ozoemela, Dylan Perez, Jake Pieniazek, Mason Pung, Gary Robertson, Markus Stevenson, Torel Watson, Jaden Williams and JJ Woodson.
