Rec sports: SAC U9 United White girls win OBGC Capital Cup

Soccer

The SAC GU9 United White team won its division in the OBGC Capital Cup White Division. The girls went undefeated and won the championship on Labor Day in a penalty kick showdown against the ASA Sharks. They were led by Coach Kim Tran and assistant coaches Dan Drasin and Dave Billups. Players on the team include: Samantha Tran, Joanna Ritter, Grace Nuetzel, Alexa Mohink, Grace Drasin, Sofia Plastino, Maya Mosser, Allie Billups, Mailinh Godschall, Alisha Uddin and Faith Whare.

The Chelsea Lions U13 Boys, a new Howard County-based travel team, made its league debut on Saturday by defeating the Severna Park Premier Cyclones, 5-1. The Chelsea Lions players are Will Tarpine, Elwyn Yount, Colin Hewit, Campbell Shepard, Gerald Van Tassell, Andrew Van Tassell, Alonzo Colon, Ian McAllister, Adi Geritz, Wessler Maldenera, Brandon Threatte, Justin Daughtery, Blake Marks, Andrew Samara, Luke Swope and Brandon Shulgold.

Running

The Howard County Junior Striders competed at Brunswick High at the youth cross country meet on Sunday, Sept. 15. Celeste Pisanic, Dennis Danieli and Jack Reading all placed in the top five in their age group races.

The 2013 Bagel to Beer Marathon was held Saturday morning, Sept. 7, in Columbia. This low-key point-to-point marathon started at the Wilde Lake Village Center and finished at Rams Head at Savage Mill. This year there were 35 finishers. Adam Wytko won the race for the second consecutive year with a time of 2:53:27, which is about five minutes faster than last year. Cecilia Murach was the female winner in a time of 3:40:56. This was Cecilia's first Bagel to Beer marathon and her first win in the marathon distance. The cool morning temperature was perfect for the runners and times were relatively faster than previous years.
