On April 5 and 6, the 15-Elite Black Team of the Maryland Juniors Volleyball Club won six consecutive matches, as well as the Chesapeake Volleyball regional championship. This championship tournament was held at the Discovery Sports Center in Montgomery County. The win qualifies the team for the USA Volleyball national championship in Minneapolis in June. The club will also travel to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh for tournaments later this spring.
Fifty-four runners came out for the Howard County Striders spring weekly series race at Northfield Elementary. Adam Wytko and Faye Weaver led the way in the 5k race. This was also the graduation race for the zero to weekly program.

Oakland Mills Middle School 8th grader Maria Ramsey competed at the Region 7 Level 9 regional championship on April 6 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Va. Ramsey, who trains at Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville, placed first on balance beam (9.65), third on vault (9.425), fifth on floor (9.2) and fourth all-around (37.25). Ramsey also qualified for the USA Gymnastics 2014 Level 9 Eastern championship, which will be held in Florida May 1-4.
As a member of the Liberty Mountain Ski Race Team, Lime Kiln Middle School 6th grader Tyler Yost traveled to Roundtop Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania during the first weekend of March for the PA/MD U12 state championship. Yost won all three runs in Slalom (SL), in addition to winning the overall event title. The following day was Giant Slalom (GS), in which he claimed third, fourth and fifth place finishes, which earned him fourth place in the final GS standings. Yost won the PA/MD state championship, and was selected to the PA/MD state team, to compete in a postseason race in Gunstock, NH.
Older brother Tommy (a sophomore at Atholton High School), is also a skier. He recently participated in the U16 State Champions at Elk Mountain in Pennsylvania, and in the Eastern High School Championship in New Hampshire.
