One year after Glenelg heavyweight Sean Twigg made it to the finals of the tough War on the Shore wrestling tournament in Salisbury, a fellow Gladiator took the top prize at the opposite end of the weight spectrum.

On Saturday evening, Glenelg sophomore Tim Null defeated Wheeling Park's Tyson Lira in the finals, 1-0, after scoring four pins — three of them in the first period — en route to the championship match.

Archbishop Spalding's Matt Pente, a Howard County resident, won the 132-pound weight class.

At 138, Centennial freshman Austin Kraisser upset Mount St. Joseph senior Seth Rowell in the quarterfinals, 2-1. Rowell, who was ranked fourth in the state coming into the tournament, advanced to the 3A/4A state finals when he was a sophomore at Reservoir High in 2011.

Kraisser was edged in the semifinals, 5-4, by Wheeling Park's Dylan Taylor, the No. 2 seed. Taylor went on to fall by pin to Bishop McNamara's Alfred Bannister in the championship, while Kraisser lost to Hanover's Corbin Allen in the consolation semifinals, 5-0, and to Glenelg's Ryan Carter in the fifth place match, 3-2.

Allen also defeated Rowell, 7-4, for third place.

After losing in the opening round, Glenelg's Austin Pagnotta (145) won five matches in the elimination bracket — four by pin — to place fourth.

Pagnotta's older brother, Anthony (170), lost in overtime to the eventual champion — Middletown's Erich Schneider — in the semifinals, but placed sixth after suffering a tournament ending injury.

Sean Twigg made it back to the finals, but lost, 1-0, to Stephen Decatur's Ryan Kail.

Twigg's younger brother, sophomore Austin (195), also had an impressive tournament, scoring three pins and placing fourth.

As a team the Gladiators placed fourth out of 29 teams with 141 points.
