The Howard ice hockey team made a big statement Jan. 3 in a 5-3 comeback win over River Hill. Matt Taylor led the way for the Lions, scoring two goals and adding two assists. Howard controlled the first period of play and jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Taylor and Doug Noonan. After a series of penalties against the Lions, River Hill took a 3-2 lead in the second period on goals by Casey Carpenter (2) and Spencer Gray. However, the Lions rallied to score three unanswered goals. Erik Davis tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period and returned the momentum to Howard. David Boudjeda scored to break the tie and Taylor added another goal to make the score 5-3. River Hill goaltender Will Barrett made 16 saves. Alex Oslund, Howard's goaltender, made 22 saves to secure the victory and move Howard's record to 4-1 on the season.
