Cross country
Last week, River Hill won a tri-meet with Oakland Mills and Reservoir, hosted by the Hawks.
The River Hill boys, led by Chris Heydrick (16:57), Terry Tossman and Mark Moody in a 1-2-3 finish, defeated the Scorpions, 17-40, and the Gators, 15-44. Oakland Mills, led by Connor Holley's fourth-place finish, edged Reservoir, 22-33.
In the girls race, River Hill defeated Reservoir, 15-49, and Oakland Mills, 21-39. The Hawks were led by Allison Krein (first, 18:57), Angelica Yi (third) and Eileen Ying (fourth). Despite Brit Lang's second-place finish and Alyssa Hemler's fifth, Reservoir's depth led it past Oakland Mills, 25-35.
The Howard Community College cross country team competed at the Hood Invitational in Frederick last weekend, with the men finishing second out of 10 teams.
Andrew Parlette (sixth, 28:13) was the top finisher for the Dragons. He was followed by Filagot Dinku (ninth, 28:31), Alex Warfield (18th), and Juan Cortez (19th) also finished in the top 20.
The women's team was incomplete due to illness. Still, Anna Sandacz placed 17th in the 6k with a time of 28:24.
"This was not one of our stellar races," said coach Steve Musselman. "We knew Hagerstown would be tough; but we need to match their efforts."
The teams will travel to Hagerstown this Saturday to compete in the Region XX / MD JUCO Championships.
