Howard Community College got half of the equation right Wednesday against Prince George's Community College, holding one of the Maryland JUCO Conference's top scoring teams to its second lowest point total of the season.
The Dragons' offense, however, simply couldn't capitalize on enough of its opportunities to pull out the victory.
In a game that neither team led by more than six points, PG held on for a 60-59 win.
"We did a good job defensively for most of the game … our offense just got stagnant and we couldn't put the ball in the basket down the stretch," HCC coach Mike Smelkinson said.
Leo Rogers (Hammond) was the offensive leader for HCC, scoring 14 points on 5-8 shooting from the floor. James Peters (Oakland Mills) was right behind him with 13 points, while Jeff James chipped in with 12. Ben Vester (Wilde Lake) and Sean Sullivan (Reservoir) were the team's top rebounders, with eight and seven boards respectively.
HCC will be back in action at home on Saturday against Hagerstown Community College.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
