Howard handed River Hill its first loss of the county season, 54-48, in overtime Monday afternoon. The game was tied 42-all at the end of regulation.

"It was a great game," said Howard coach Scott Robinson. "It was back and fourth throughout. I don't think anybody led by more than five points the entire game."

River Hill held a 20-19 lead at the half and was up by four in the fourth quarter. Then things got really close.

Howard was leading by a point and the shot clock was running out when sophomore Emma Hoesman hit a basket with 8 seconds left to give the Lions a three-point advantage.

Howard owned the overtime, 12-6, though.

"River Hill played a great game," Robinson said. "I'm really proud of my girls, especially for coming back. There were clutch shots and clutch foul shots."

Howard shot a season best 11-16 from the free throw line he said.

The Lions' scoring was led by April Kuhn (15), Brittany Butler (14) and Anne Kinsey (11). Alauna Jackson was tops for River Hill with 16 points.
