Scoring its highest team total of the season, Glenelg cruised past Howard Thursday at Cattail Creek, 100-51.
Steven Segrist led the way with his second straight 29-point day (two-under par) for a Gladiator team that had all four of its boys score in the 20s.
“Our goal coming into the day was to hit 100 and the boys delivered,” Glenelg coach Chris Beil said. “Realistically it could have even been four or five shots better, but I’m definitely pleased with where we’re at.”
Behind Segrist, Glenelg (4-1) got 26 points from Adam Leake, 23 from Matt Forester and 22 from Greg Leake. Howard (2-3) was led by Steven Park’s 18 points.
Segrist, though, was the story. The sophomore continued his recent string of strong play, showcasing consistency from tee to green. An eagle on the par 5 seventh hole highlighted his round Thursday.
“He’s hitting it well off the tee and sticking his irons close … he’s giving himself a lot of chances (to make birdies),” Beil said.
The second tri-meets of the season are scheduled for next Tuesday. Glenelg will square off with Reservoir and Oakland Mills at Hobbits Glenn, while Howard is at the Timbers at Troy against Mt. Hebron and Long Reach.
