Mt. Hebron field hockey holds off Marriotts Ridge, 3-1

In a battle of two teams in the top third of the county standings, Mt. Hebron outlasted Marriotts Ridge, 3-1, Friday afternoon.

Sam Brookhart had two goals in the victory, which improved the Vikings to 6-2 in the county and 8-2 overall. Marriotts Ridge (5-3, 7-4), playing without a pair of starters that have been injured over the past week, got 11 saves from goalie Sophia Hamilton in the loss.

Mt. Hebron coach Jeannette Ireland was happy with her team’s ability to establish some positive momentum after dropping a game against Atholton on Monday. “It’s been a long week and we were happy to end it with a win,” she said.

Long Reach’s Jess Bates scored twice and Clarissa Lopez-Diarte scored in her second game in a row, as the Lightning defeated Wilde Lake. A new goalie in the cage for Wilde Lake, Paige Boyer, made five saves in the loss.

Megan Taylor scored three goals, leading an attack that had six different players score, as Glenelg picked up a victory over Oakland Mills. Celine Manneville was kept busy in the cage for the Scorpions, as she blocked 25 shots.
