The new heat guidelines dictate that an unlimited supply of water should be readily available during practice. Student athletes are encouraged to drink 16 oz. two hours before physical activity, 8 to 16 oz. 15 minutes before physical activity and 4 to 8 oz. every 15 to 20 minutes during physical activity. After physical activity, athletes are encouraged to drink 16 to 20 oz. for every pound lost during their workout.
