Russett: Learn about environmentally safe energy sources and products at Green Day

PTAFuel-efficient VehiclesHybrid VehiclesKraft Foods Group Inc.

Earth Week may be over but "going green" is on the rise. Alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind power, electric cars, earth friendly household products and more, are becoming very commonplace.

Learn about going green at Russett's fourth annual Green Day, Saturday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the community center. The event is sponsored by the Russett Green Committee, whose members include my husband, Tim Reyburn; and Rob Newman; Gerald Lemmon; Gerri Hanus, Anne Bates; and Michele Floam.

Learn firsthand about recycling, rain barrels, clean energy and green household and hair-care products that are not just good for you but good for the environment, too. Free recycling bins will be available, courtesy of the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works. Free food will be provided by Brickman Landscaping. There will be raffles and giveaways throughout the day.

So come on out, bring your family, friends and neighbors, and learn what you can do to make a difference for the environment today.

Congratulations to the following Brock Bridge Elementary Science Fair winners,

Kindergarten, Andrew Casey; first grade, Jasmin Azan; second grade, Ashna Pandya; third grade, Daniella Kraft; fourth grade, Lindsay Sutter; and fifth grade, Matthew Leight.
