Laurel: National Night Out
Laurel celebrated National Night Out against crime on Aug. 2 to bring the community together. A national event held the first Tuesday of August to strengthen police-community partnerships, Laurel Police use the night as a way to meet and greet residents, introduce community programs and demonstrate some of their tactical skills. The event is also designed to heighten community awareness and participation in crime prevention and drug prevention programs.

Laurel Police Chief Richard McLaughlin may only have eight months under his belt as chief, but many more years experence grilling up hamburgers and hot dogs, which he put to good use serving up hundreds of the grilled treats to local residents at National Night Out on Tuesday held at Granville Gude Park at Laurel Lake.
