The summer heat cannot seem to decide if it wants to hang out with us this summer or not. The drastic changes in temperature from week to week make for an interesting summer in planning activities. Hopefully everyone is enjoying the cooler summer days by enjoying the great outdoors. And on those hot days, what better place to be than a local pool. Regardless of the temperature, the West Arundel Swim Club busily continues its summer fun, offering water aerobics to its members every Tuesday and Thursday night; a kid's night on Friday, July 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.; and a second set of swim lessons beginning on Monday, July 9. For more information and prices for any of these activities, please call the pool at 301-725-9831.
The club also includes a number of activities outside the water to include volleyball, basketball, pick up soccer or kickball games, and a children's play area. If you are interested in joining, contact the membership chairperson, Flo at 301-725-5644 or stop by the pool.
Also, thank you to the West Arundel Swim Club's staff for another year of family fun during the annual Fourth of July Celebration. Teams competed on land in the volleyball tournament, horseshoe tournaments (adults or kids), 3-on-3 basketball tournament, while others competed in the water as part of the tied-together 3-legged swim, gobstopper race, duck splash, diving and belly flop contests and watermelon football. Everyone enjoyed the company of family and friends and grilling out.
Other up-and-coming community events include vacation Bible school at Community United Methodist Church, 300 Brock Bridge Road. Dive in deep and go overboard with "Operation Overboard: Dare to Go Deep With God." Join in the fun every evening from July 9 to 13. Each night begins with a light dinner at 6 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Kimberly at 443-742-5493 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Community United Methodist Church also offers its second Movie Night of the summer July 13 at the conclusion of vacation Bible school. Whether you attend vacation Bible school or not, plan to meet your friends on the field at dusk to enjoy a movie for all ages. Please bring your own chairs and blankets. Lemonade and popcorn will be provided for free. For more information about Movie Night, please contact Ellen at 301-928-3673.
