The beautiful spring weather we have been experiencing has definitely invited everyone to experience the great outdoors. I have noticed a surge of activity outdoors including yard work, playing soccer and baseball with the kids, washing the cars and bike riding. Everyone appears ready for the warm weather to continue.
The Maryland City Recreation Council's Mustangs Soccer program started off a great season over the last two weeks with soccer games occurring every Friday night at the Maryland City Park field under the lights, and on Sunday afternoons on the field near the dog park. Take the family out to enjoy some great soccer by travel teams from around Anne Arundel County and cheer on our Mustangs along the way. Our youngest soccer players began practice this week and will start Saturday games after the county schools have spring break. The baseball program also starts up after the spring break. There are still a few spots left on the baseball teams, so contact my husband, John Venit, quickly at email@example.com or 301-725-7711 if you still want to get registered.
MCRC Mustangs Basketball completed its season March 23 with an explosive banquet of more than 300 people. The MCRC thanks all of the families that came out to support their players, and also thanks all of the in-house and travel head coaches that volunteered during the season to teach the players the fundamentals of basketball and the importance of good sportsmanship. This includes the 4-5 coaches: Joe Gay, Marc Sands, Tim Teagle and Greg Thompson; the 6-7 coaches: Chris Thompson, Dave Cintron, Tony Bonanno, Graylan Douglas, Carlos Hill and Willie Kendrick; the travel coaches: John Bussink (11U boys), John Chandler (10U girls), Evan Chestnut (9U boys), Arnaldo Echevarria (8U boys), Carlos Hill (13U boys) and Jeff Watkins (13U girls); and also the many assistant coaches and team parents and reporters who helped throughout the season. MCRC had a great season with lots of fun for the players.
Anne Arundel County public schools dismiss two hours early on Friday, March 30. Spring break continues for the public schools the following week, with students returning to the classrooms on Tuesday, April 10. The last day of the school year for county schools has also been announced as June 8.
Start planning your summer activities now. Maryland City Baptist Church holds its summer vacation Bible school kick-off on June 23 from 1-4 p.m., and vacation Bible school will be held the week of June 24-29 from 6-9 p.m.
Area churches buzz with activity over the next couple of weeks as they prepare for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. The Maryland City Baptist Church Outreach Department invites all neighbors ages 4-12 years old to join the fun on Saturday, April 7 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. as they host the Resurrection Egg Hunt Easter Celebration. Along with the traditional egg hunt, the celebration also offers crafts, story telling, a chance to dye your own egg and everyone's favorite: refreshments.
Other festive family events offered over the celebrative weekend include the Easter Sunday sunrise service for the early birds on April 8 at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast following; an Easter Sunday Bible study at 9:45 a.m.; and an Easter service at 11a.m.
Enjoy the beautiful weather and spend some time outdoors with your family and neighbors. Summer will be here before too long. My family wishes everyone a happy Easter and Passover.
