City sponsoring food collection for Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services

The city is sponsoring a collection of non-perishable food items to help stock the holiday pantry at Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services a Laurel Avenue nonprofit that assists homeless and low-income individuals and families.

Some of the food items needed to stock the LARS pantry include peanut butter and jelly; tuna and Tuna Helper; canned fruit, vegetables and soup; beans; cereal and oatmeal; pancake mixes that only require water; boxed macaroni and cheese dinners; pasta; and rice. Food should not have expired label dates.

Donations can be placed in green bins located at the Laurel Municipal Center, the Robert J. DiPietro Community Center, the Laurel Armory Anderson-Murphy Community Center, the Laurel Police Department and the Public Works Facility.

For information on making food donations at Laurel facilities, call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 301-725-7800.
