Laurel police report felonies, arrests and property crimes. Howard County police report major crimes, break-ins and car thefts.
City of Laurel
Gorman Avenue, 700 block, June 14. Armed robbery at 7-Eleven. Man displayed knife, demanded money from employee and fled with money. Laurel Police officer observed man matching description of suspect on Gorman Avenue and attempted to stop him, but man fled through apartment complex and yards until apprehended in 800 block of Greenhill Avenue. Suspect positively identified. Knife used during robbery found in 800 block Eighth Street. All money taken recovered. Abdul Marhgid Ndiaye, 18, of South Arbory, arrested and charged with armed robbery.
Montrose Avenue, 300 block, June 11. Office supplies stolen from Big Top Cleaners by female who left area and was arrested in 100 block of Woodland Court. All property taken recovered. Female released on criminal citation pending court date.
Baltimore Avenue, 14700 block, June 10. Hyattsville man, 20, arrested and charged with shoplifting at Macy's after removing numerous clothing items and fleeing in black SUV. Laurel Police stopped SUV on Cherry Lane. Man's 3-month-old infant was in truck, not secured properly. Man was issued criminal citations for theft and confining unattended child. All stolen items recovered. At police station, officers fed and diapered baby.
Fourth Street, 14700 block, June 16. Four tires and rims stolen off Corvette.
Haines Court, 7700 block, June 15. Garmin GPS system stolen from car.
Second Street, Unit block, June 15. Black four-door 2010 Volkswagen Jetta with Florida tags stolen. Vehicle rented from rental agency and never returned. Warrant obtained.
Baltimore Avenue, 14700 block, June 14. Attempted burglary at Mr. Tire. Entry attempted through side door.
Prince George Street, 700 block, June 14. Burgundy and black 2007 Yamaha YZFR6 motorcycle with Maryland tags, and black and yellow 2006 Raptor ATV stolen from trailer parked on corner of Sixth Street.
Summerwind Circle, 7300 block, June 13. Pink and green 2-foot sculpture shaped as hourglass stolen from front porch.
Eleventh Street, 300 block, June 12. Purse stolen from SUV.
Carroll Avenue, 400 block, June 11. Wallet, containing money, Brazilian driver's license, visa paperwork and credit card stolen from car.
Woodland Court, Unit block, June 10. Four tires and rims stolen from Mercedes.
Washington Boulevard, 700 block, June 10. Nine tires stolen from storage area at Monroe Muffler.
Durness Lane, 9500 block, 6:54 p.m. June 18. Entry gained to Savage Branch library through roof. Vending machine damaged, and food items stolen. Police responded while burglary was in process. Stolen property recovered from suspect's backpack.
Assateague Road/Pocomoke Drive, 6:21 p.m. June 18. Suspects assaulted victim as he exited bus. Cash stolen.
Whiskey Run Road, 9700 block, 9:39 p.m. June 17. Indecent exposure. Suspect arrested.
Canterbury Riding, 9200 block, between 11:30 p.m. June 12 and 7:30 a.m. June 13. 2010 Jonway Agility moped stolen.
