The trial of the 21-year-old Laurel man accused in the stabbing death of another man near a Laurel mobile home park began Tuesday in Howard County Circuit Court.
Robert Tasker, of the 20 block on Cross Street, faces second-degree murder, assault and weapon charges in connection with the death of Robert Lynn Foster, 46, of Savage, on Aug. 23.
According to Howard County Police, on the evening of Foster's death, he and Tasker got into an argument near Midway mobile home park, located in the 10000 block of North 2nd Street, that escalated into a physical altercation.
Police responded to the scene for a report of an assault shortly after 7:15 p.m. and found Foster lying near the entrance of the mobile home park.
Foster was transported to Laurel Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
During opening statements in the case on Jan. 15, defense attorney Debra A. Saltz said Tasker was acting in self-defense, and that Foster initiated the altercation, Kirwan said.
According to Kirwan, prosecutor Lisa Broten told the jury, "This is not a case of self-defense, this is a case of murder."
