Best Blooms: Grow a stunning garden with tips from local experts
To home gardeners, a trip to the local nursery can be bittersweet: So many wonderful possibilities, so little room of one's own in which to plant them. Or, on the other hand, so many that won't thrive in the sites you have to offer. Sigh. But if you could visit the gardens belonging to or designed by the experts, you would see their own personal favorites, and some might just match the sunny/shady/damp/dry/acidic spot you have in mind. In the absence of such a garden tour, we've asked some local garden and landscape professionals to recommend their favorite flowers, shrubs or trees.

Randy Best, manager of houseplants at Behnke Nursery, recommends Red columbine. It grows best with morning sun and afternoon shade and needs good drainage.
