While working at a friend’s store, Anna Lee became intrigued by the various types of coffees and methods of roasting beans. The interest eventually led her and her husband, Kevin Lee, to open their own coffee shop earlier this year.
In addition to freshly brewed coffee, Anna’s Coffee Roastery in Columbia serves more than 20 different types of herbal, black leaf, green leaf and decaf tea. “Our roastery is different from others because we roast as needed,” says Anna Lee. “We like that we can satisfy our customers’ needs one-on-one instead of through a big company.”
Aside from providing fresh quality coffee and tea, Lee says her reason for starting her coffee shop is to earn money to open a youth retreat center one day. “Kevin and I have always wanted to build and open up a youth retreat center for churches around the area to spend their retreat or any other activities at our place,” she says.
The shop’s menu includes breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, wraps and frozen yogurt. There are Korean specialties, too, such as the sweet beef and spicy pork bulgogi platters and bulgogi tacos.
“We use some of our own special sauces and recipes,” Lee says. “I, as well as my family and most people around us, do not like MSG in our foods, and we do not put any MSG in any of our dishes to keep everyone around us healthy.”
