After Monday's regional quarterfinal round, only four Howard County baseball teams remained alive in their quest for a state championship.

Atholton, the recently crowned Howard County champion, saw its season end suddenly with a 4-1 loss to River Hill.

Reservoir joins River Hill in the 3A East regional semifinals, while Marriotts Ridge and Oakland Mills are the last two teams standing in the 2A South.

In MIAA B Conference tournament play, Glenelg Country survived a scare against Pallotti, battling back from a 6-1 deficit, to eventually win, 12-11. The Dragons will now face St. Marys, the regular season B Conference champion, on Wednesday at Joe Cannon Stadium.

In the C Conference, Chapelgate lost to St. Johns, 6-4, but will get another chance, Tuesday against Key, in the double elimination tournament.

3A East

Reservoir 8, Hammond 2

Reservoir came from behind to beat Hammond, 8-2. The Gators will now visit J.M. Bennett — an 11-6 winner over Howard — in the regional semifinals, time and date to be announced.

Stephen Decatur 1, Mt. Hebron 0

Stephen Decatur spoiled Brady Smouse's gem, scoring the walk off run in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out bloop single to shallow right field. Smouse struck out 12, allowed only four hits and one walk, and the only run he surrendered was unearned.

River Hill 4, Atholton 1

The Hawks upset second-seeded Atholton, the Howard County champion, 4-1.

The Raiders took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff triple by Brady Acker and an RBI by Joe Bentz, but could not muster another run the rest of the way.

Hawks sophomore Rohan Tilva, in just his second start of the year after recovering from a back injury, delivered a strong pitching performance, allowing seven hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking two.

He "has worked incredibly hard to rehab his back into shape," coach Wes McCoy said. "It was a real gutsy performance."

River Hill had ten hits in the game, including three by Falan Garner and doubles by Shrawan Sinha and Billy Small.

"We got some breaks, we survived some jams and came out on top," McCoy said.

River Hill will now travel to Stephen Decatur on Wednesday.

2A South

Marriotts Ridge 15, Gwynn Park 0

The Mustangs have now shut out two playoff opponents, 36-0.

Oakland Mills 3, Calvert 0

Kyle Madden-Stricker pitched a complete game seven-hit shut out, striking out 14 and walking only one. He also drove in one of his teams three runs.
