A new grocery store is expected to open next month at the site of the former Superfresh in Elkridge. The space has been empty since July 6.
The store — Green Valley Marketplace — should be ready by mid-November, according to Benjy Green, CEO of Baltimore-based B. Green. The company also has four other stores in Baltimore: two Cash & Carry locations, which primarily sell wholesale products to businesses, and two Food Depot grocery stores.
Green said when area Superfresh stores closed, his company looked at some of the available properties, including the approximately 40,000 square feet space located in the Elkridge shopping center at 7280 Montgomery Road.
"We always liked the Elkridge area," Green said.
The grocery store will have a new exterior and new floors, giving it a brighter feel, Green said. He declined to say how much money the company is putting into renovations, but called it a significant investment.
"I think people will see it immediately," he said.
Green said he expects the store to have between 110 and 125 employees, nearly all of whom will be new hires.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
