The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Board of Directors have unanimously approved County Executive Ken Ulman's appointment of Lawrence Twele to CEO of the Economic Development Authority.

Twele had been serving in an acting capacity since Feb. 22, when Laura Neuman vacated the post to become Anne Arundel County Executive. His appointment is effective immediately.

“I cannot think of a better person to build on the progress we have made in Howard County and take us to the next level,” Ulman said in a statement. “For close to two years, Larry has been a driving force behind our business development successes and now he will guide the way.”

Twele said in a statement he is honored to have been selected for the position.

“I am very grateful to the County Executive and our board for their faith in my ability,” he said. “I take this role seriously and will work tirelessly to promote Howard County as the premier county to live, work and do business. It is my honor to serve.”

Before joining the Economic Development Authority, Twele was the Director of the Carroll County Department of Economic Development, where he spent more than six years guiding business development, business retention, workforce development, and tourism.

He also spent nearly seven years with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, where he was responsible for the statewide regional office system.
